Inferior Turbinate Hypertrophy with Bilateral Submucosal Turbinate Reduction Surgery
This medical animation displays the anterior and inferior views of the nose with inferior turbinate hypertrophy undergoing a bilateral submucosal turbinate reduction surgery. The bilateral inferior turbinate hypertrophy blocks the patient's airways and requires a reduction surgery. In this procedure, an incision is created in the inferior aspect of the mucosa. The mucosal tissue is then dissected and elevated down to the submucosal plane. Lastly, the excess mucosa is debrided, the bone is thinned, and the reduced turbinate is laterally displaced to restore airflow. Anatomy highlighted in this animation includes the septum, nasal passage, and inferior turbinate.
