Macrovasculature and Microvasculature

This exhibit shows the macrovasculature and microvasculature of the body encompassing the pulmonary and systematic circuits that involve arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart and out to the body. Veins carry oxygen-poor blood from the body and back to the heart for reoxygenation. Capillaries direct contact with tissues and supply them with oxygen. Structures in these systems include the lungs, liver, stomach, and the kidneys. Vasculature highlighted in the pulmonary circuit encompasses the pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, vena cava, and the aorta. Vasculature highlighted in the systematic circuit includes the hepatic vein, renal vein, renal artery, hepatic portal vein, and the hepatic artery.
