The sagittal view shows necrotizing inflammation, swelling, and fluid in the pharynx. The cut-away view highlights the fascia, muscle layers, submucosa, mucosa, and lumen of the pharyngeal wall. The pharyngeal wall also shows inflammation and complete perforation through all pharyngeal wall layers, allowing the leakage of saliva and food particles.
