This exhibit displays a view of the abdomen of a teen male. An opaque overlay shows the bowels with a portion of the small intestine adherent to the right pelvic wall. A transparent overlay of the bony pelvic structures is displayed as well as the trocar placements. Using x4 panels the appendectomy and bowel resection is explained, including 1) cautery release of the adhesions releasing pus and blood, 2) removal of the appendix, 3) transection of the small bowel, resecting a small portion, and 4) anastomosis of the two ends of the small intestine, externalized by extending the incision.
