This exhibit displays a skin cube in stage 2 of necrotizing fasciitis. Stage 2 shows the necrosis of the deep tissues with a gradual upward progression of the infection as well as a vascular occlusion, air pockets, and an increase in the spread of bacteria and toxins within the deep skin layers.
